The draft programme of the School is given as Annex 1 to this Bulletin.
Outlines of some of the lecture courses, together with suggested reading lists, are also attached. It is planned that summary lecture notes will be made available at the School.
Students are invited to display, as posters, a short description of the experiment on which they are working and some recent results. They should bring with them pictures and other suitable material for display on pinboards. The evening of Thursday 26 August will be devoted to their
presentation during an informal session when refreshments will be provided.
Registration for the School will take place at the School Secretariat at the Casta-Papiernicka Centre, from 14.00 until 22.00 hours on Sunday 22 August 1999. Students are asked to note that the School fee does not include lunch in the Casta-Papiernicka Centre on either Sunday 22 August or Saturday 4 September.
(a) The place and the climate
Casta-Papiernicka Centre lies in a colourful environment of the protected landscape region in the Little Carpathians. The surrounding of the Little Carpathians are the entrance hills into the Carpathians, the second (after the Alps) largest mountain range in Europe, some 1300 km long. They start on the bank of the Danube in Bratislava and end in the Myjava Pass, thus running over a length of some 100 km.
The nearest villages to Casta-Papiernicka Centre ar Pila (2 km) and Casta (4 km). The nearest town is Modra (11 km), to be famous viticultural centre, known for its picturesque wine-harvest celebrations and the production of Slovak folk majolica which started in 1838.
The climate at the end of August and the beginning of September is pleasant with an average temperature of 24 degree C during the day and 14 degrees C at night. Nevertheless participants are recommended to bring also warm clothes, good walking shoes and a raincoat as there is 40% probability of showers in the season.
(b) Accommodation
All participants will be accommodated in two-bedded rooms in suites and bungalows. Each suit has one sitting room, two double rooms, a bathroom, WC and a telephone, which can also be used by participants for outgoing calls managed through the telephone exchange of the Centre. Similar facilities are also in bungalows.
Sporting-relaxation facilities in the Casta-Papiernicka include: covered swimming-pool, billiards, fitness centre, bowling, squasch, steam-bath and sauna.
Meals will be taken in the Casta Papiernicka restaurant except on Sunday 29 August when an all-day excursion is foreseen.
On Friday 3 September there will be a farewell banquet instead of the usual dinner.
Participants are asked to note that they should not be accompanied by family members or friends.
Please note that those participants from the JINR Member States whose travel is being sponsored should first check their proposed travel arrangements with JINR Organizing Secretary, Mrs.Tatyana Donskova before making a firm booking for their tickets.
On present planning, the group will travel by train No.15 Moscow-Bratislava on Friday 20 August leaving Moscow at 23.55 hours, and arriving in Bratislava Railway station on Sunday 22 August at 7.20 a.m.
A group of participants from CERN will travel with Swissair on Sunday 22 August Geneva-Vienna on SR 8666, departure at 10.55 hours.,arrival at 12.30 hours. Saturday 4 September, Vienna-Geneva on SR 8669., departure at 17.40, arrival at 19.10. The cost of a return ticket is 536 CHF. Reservations must be made immediately and paid for by Thursday 15 July at the latest. The group travel Geneva-Vienna is being handled by Carlson Wagonlits at CERN and their e-mail address is: wagonlit@cern.ch.
On Sunday 22 August, two special buses will collect participants from Vienna Airport to Casta-Papiernicka Centre. Another special buses will take participants from Bratislava Airport, Bratislava Bus Station and Bratislava Railway Station.
Similarly, on Saturday 4 September, transport will be provided to take participants to the Vienna and Bratislava Airports and Railway Station in Bratislava. after breakfast.
Those who would like to arrive by car it is recommended to use the main road from Bratislava to Pezinok and Modra. Further on, between the villages Dubova and Casta there is a turn to the village if Pila which runs for about 2 km along a valley. About 3 km beyond the village lies the Casta-Papiernicka Centre. Please note there is no public transportation to Papiernicka.
A Travel/Food questionnaire will be available on the World Wide Web in June so the participants may inform the Local Organizing Committee of their travel dates/times to and from the School; and whether they have any special diet requirements. This should be sent by Friday 30 July.
Participants needing any help in Cassta-Papiernicka should inform the Local Organizing Committee as early as possible. (See para. 6).
Sponsors for the School include CERN, JINR, INTAS and UNESCO. Professor Stanislav Dubnicka (Institute of Physics, Bratislava) will act as Director of the School, assisted by the other members of the Organizing Committee.

Please note that the JINR Organizing Secretary for the School, Mrs.T.Donskova, can be contacted in JINR until the evening of Thursday 19 and thereafter at Casta Papiernicka (see paragraph 12).
A small library will be available, containing relevant textbooks, conference proceedings, proceedings of earlier Schools and of other schools of physics.
Each participant will receive a copy of a booklet giving details about the School and containing the 100-word descriptions of the current research work of lecturers, discussion leaders and students.
Students are informed that the fee of 1500 Swiss francs should be paid as soon as possible, but in any case no later than 23 July 1999, into the following account :
Please ensure that it is CLEARLY STATED on whose behalf the payment is being made. Failure to do so leads to a great deal of difficulty in identifying the originators of payments. If paying by cheque, please ensure that the full sum is paid into the CERN account as in some cases there is a bank charge of 8 Swiss francs or more. The fee covers the following: tuition and full board and lodging Casta Papiernicka from dinner on Sunday 22 August to breakfast on Saturday 4 September (both meals inclusive), a drink at lunch and at dinner, coffee or tea during the morning and afternoon breaks, and social activities and excursions as detailed below (see paragraph 9).
It should be noted that other drinks, telephone calls and personal services are not covered by the fee
Health and accident insurance are NOT included in the fee. All participants should make enquiries concerning reciprocal arrangements between their own country and the Slovak Republic and, where necessary, take out appropriate cover.
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of all or part of the fee in the case of late cancellation. However, each case would be considered individually.
Students are accepted on the assumption that they will stay for the duration of the School and no reduction will be made for those who are present for less than the full period.
Major credit cards and travellers' cheques are accepted at the banks in Bratislava, where it is also possible to exchange the principle European currencies and the US dollar. The banks are open from Monday to Friday, from 8.00 to 15.00 hours. Participants are therefore advised to buy some Slovak crowns before arriving in Casta Papiernicka on Sunday 22 August.
Participants are reminded to be careful about leaving money and valuable possessions unattended. The Organizing Committee cannot accept any responsibility for property lost or stolen.

At the end of the School, students will be asked to complete a questionnaire covering various aspects of its organization and it is hoped that this will give a picture of the level of success of the scientific programme, the suitability of the location and reaction to the related social programme, which will be of value in the planning of future Schools.
In all cases of withdrawal or cancellation, whether last-minute or otherwise, the choice of a replacement, if any, will lie entirely with the Organizing Committee and not with the Institute or laboratory concerned. In no case will a candidate be accepted as a replacement unless he or she
Has already applied to attend the School and the Organizing Committee has had the opportunity to examine his or her application.
