Under the sign of science integration

On 25-26 June, the II All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Integration of sciences: interdisciplinarity in medicine" was held at the North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk, uniting specialists in the field of medical, applied, experimental physics, radiation medicine and other areas.

It was attended by specialists, students and graduate students from all over Russia and other countries, including leading researchers from Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, St. Petersburg State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Kazan Federal University, Ghent University (Belgium), the Yakutsk Republican Oncological Dispensary, the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology, the Alexandrov National Research Centre of Oncology and Medical Radiology (Minsk, Belarus), the branch of Moscow State University in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and others.

The reports of leading experts provided up-to-date relevant information on the development of current and new methods for diagnosing and treating diseases, as well as on the possibilities of improving the quality of medical care when integrating resources from different fields of science and technology. In her welcoming speech, University President E.I.Mikhailova expressed great gratitude to the guests participating in the Conference for responding to the invitation to take part in such an important event for the Republic of Sakha.

Scientific integration in meeting medical issues with the use of high-tech medical and physical equipment was discussed in the report "System for training medical physicists in Russia" by Head of the Department of Physics of Accelerators and Radiation Medicine, Faculty of Physics, Lomonosov Moscow State University Professor A.P.Chernyaev. The participants in the plenary session were greatly impressed by the report "Brain and neuron" by Professor at the Department of Biophysics, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University G.V.Maksimov. Both of these departments of Moscow State University cooperate with NEFU named after M.K. Ammosov in Yakutsk not only in terms of training young specialists of a wide profile, but also implementing joint research.

The report of the Professor at the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology and NRNU MEPhI I.M.Lebedenko that was about the practical aspects of scheduled radiation in various nosologies was of great interest to medical physicists in Yakutia. In a fascinating form, a plenary report was presented by Professor E.K.Kozlova (I.M.Sechenov First State Medical University) that is well known at LRB JINR, on the issues of long-term blood storage.

Professor at St. Petersburg State University, Chairman of the Section "Electron microscopy in biomedicine and medicine" E.M.Vinogradova spoke about the mathematical modeling of electrochemical and computer systems that are used in the investigations of Yakut scientists.

An employee of the Sector of Neutron Activation Analysis and Applied Research of the Department of Nuclear Physics of JINR M.V.Frontaseva in the final part of her invited plenary report "Current problems of ecology and human health" reported on the successfully developing cooperation of the Sector with the Department of General and Experimental Physics of the Physics and Technology Institute of NEFU, headed by S.N.Mamaeva, about the first published paper in the prestigious international journal "Atmosphere" on the estimation of air pollution of one of the infrastructure facilities of the capital of Yakutia. The sectional report of M.V.Frontaseva was dedicated to the use of nuclear-physical analytical techniques in addressing environmental protection issues.

The expansion of JINR's scientific contacts with Russian universities, especially those remote from the centre of the Russian Federation will surely contribute to the acquisition of new knowledge at the intersection of various sciences - physics, chemistry, medicine and ecology, the so-called life sciences. One listing of the sections of the Yakut Conference speaks of a wide coverage of the areas of today's research: "Medical physics", "Radiobiology and radiation medicine", "Actual tasks in biomedicine", "Electron microscopy in biomedicine and medicine", "Multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis and therapy of diseases", "The impact of cold on the human body and animals", "Current issues of ecology and human health". The student part of the Conference "Interdisciplinary approach to meeting current tasks of medicine" was accompanied by a round table "Present and future of physical education at school and university".
