   First Bulletin

The VI International Workshop on Application of Lasers in Atomic Nuclei Research is scheduled to take place in Poznan (Poland) on May 24-27, 2004.

Organizers of the Workshop are the:

Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions (FLNR),
JINR, Dubna, Russia
Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU),
Poznan, Poland

Since 1990, this workshop has traditionally taken place every 2-3 years. The aim is to discuss recent nuclear structure results from laser spectroscopy, the prospects of further work in the field, and the mutual impact with other branches of nuclear science. Today, in many scientific centers, the laser methods find a more extended area of application. The organizers hope that the workshop will help in the choice of the most interesting and promising experiments and will bring together the experimental possibilities from different institutes, helping initiate new collaborations.

The conference will cover a broad list of topics presented in a series of invited talks highlighting recent research in the following fields:

  • Laser spectroscopy of exotic nuclei, fission fragments and transuranium elements
  • Nuclear structure of exotic nuclei
  • Hyperfine anomaly, nuclear magnetization radii
  • Laser ion sources (LIST, RILIS etc)
  • Ion-traps, coolers, gas-catchers, ion guide and gas-jet methods for laser spectroscopy
  • Detection of trace elements by laser spectroscopy
  • Lasers in life-science
In addition to invited talks (30 minutes), contributions highlighting recent research results will be selected for oral presentations (20 minutes). A poster session is not planned. It is expected that during the Workshop there will be enough time for informal meetings at which one can discuss the prospects of joining the efforts of different scientific centres for performing joint investigations.

The working language of the Workshop is English.

Those interested in attending should indicate their intent by registering via the LASER2004 web-site, or by returning the attached Application Form.
