Search for Non-Nucleon Degrees of Freedom and Spin Effects
in Few-Nucleon Systems

Scientific Programme:

Study of charge-exchange processes in dp-interactions. Study of polarization characteristics of different reactions with polarized and unpolarized deuterons and nucleons in inclusive, exclusive and correlation experiments (PPM, BES, SINGLET, DELTA-SIGMA). Study of light nuclei ( ²D, ³He and ⁴He) structure at small distances and search for manifestations of non-nucleonic and quark degrees of freedom (MRS). Study of highly excited nuclear matter and collectivity effects in nuclear medium; delta and other nucleonic resonance excitations on protons and nuclei (MRS). Study of spin-spin correlations in pp elastic scattering. Modernization of the polarized proton target to study polarization characteristics of NN and dN interactions. Detector development for relativistic nuclei and polarization experiments at the Nuclotron (MRS, SINGLET, DELTA-SIGMA), PSI, CEBAF (Hall A), COSY.
Preparation and performance of measurements

_L(np) and A_00kk(np) - total np cross section difference and spin-correlation parameter from np

pn charge exchange at 0 ^o (180 ^o c.m) in experiments with longitudinal polarized target protons and beam neutrons at energies of 1.5, 1.7 and 2.0 GeV. For the same energies of unpolarized neutrons, preparation and performance of measurements of cross sections for np charge-exchange at zero angle on H, D and C targets.

Expected main results in 2002:

Data taking with STRELA set-up at the extracted Nuclotron beam.
Transportation of the MRS from Los Alamos, its assembling and commissioning in Dubna.
Tests of the spectrometer subsystem at deuteron beam with the polarized target equivalent.
Mounting and commissioning of the 2-arm hodoscopic spectrometer with a transversally polarized target; start of data taking.
Data-taking with DELTA-SIGMA set-up by using the polarized neutron beam at 1.5, 1.7 and 2.0 GeV. Using of accumulated statistics during the runs.
Development of theoretical methods the calculate deuteron fragmentation nuclei with taking relativistic and FSI effects into account.
Measurement of polarization transfer from d to p in the reaction ¹²C (, )X at internal momenta of 0.6-0.8 GeV/c.
