Radiation Effects and Modification of Materials, Radioanalytical and Radioisotopic Investigations at the FLNR Accelerators

Scientific Programme:
New experimental data on the radiation damage physics of alloys, monocrystals and polymers at their bombardment with 0.5-100 MeV/n heavy ions. Study of radiation influence on the microstructure evolution. Production of ultra-pure isotopes. Development of radioanalytical methods for environmental studies. Investigation of polymeric materials modification exposed to heavy ions and production of porous structures on their basis.
Design and creation of accelerator complexes of heavy ions and protons and appropriate technologies for production of radionuclides for nuclear medicine and radio therapy.

Expected main results in 2003:

Design of special channels and set-ups for radiation damage investigations at U400M, IC100, ECR4M.
Study of monocrystal luminiscence caused by irradiation with heavy ions.
Simulation of the effects induced by fission fragments in materials of inert diluters of the composite nuclear fuel.
Study of the nuclear properties of radio-chemically pure radionuclides for nuclear medicine and radioecology ( ²³⁷U, ²³⁵Np, ²²⁵Ac, ¹⁴⁹Tb, etc.)
Design and manufacturing of principal components of the heavy ion and proton accelerator with an energy of 72 MeV (DC-72): the magnet, vacuum system, HF-system, beam transportation channels.
