Information, Computer and Network Support of JINR's Activity

• Development of the external JINR computer telecommunication channels: a) provision of the reliable functioning of the 1 Gbps high-speed JINR-Moscow data link on the basis of SCC "Dubna", b) upgrade of Dubna - Moscow data link up to 10 Gbps, c) JINR participation in the process of implementation of the research computer network of the new generation (with Russian and international - GLORIAD and GEANT2 segments) for provision of JINR's activities and with the purpose of optimization of access to Russian and global networks (RBNET, RUNNET, RUHEP, RASNET, GEANT2, GLORIAD). Creation of the system of IP-telephony in JINR. Creation and development of the JINR dedicated data links with Tier1 centers: CERN - for CMS experiment, FZK (Karlsruhe) - for ALICE experiment, and SARA (Amsterdam) - for ATLAS experiment.
  
  
• Provision of reliable and failure-tolerant work of the JINR backbone main communication core; development of a system of monitoring the network and its components; introduction of a system of authorization of each element of the network structure and technologies of access to the network resources; continuation of modernization of power supply of the central LAN unit. Provision of uninterrupted, reliable and effective operation of the Institute's gigabit highway. Study of variants of safety in the networks with large throughput (up to 10 Gbps). Stage-by-stage transition of the JINR Backbone to 10 Gbps. Development of new methods and means for monitoring, control and protection of local networks on the basis of studying the peculiarities of the network traffic. Creation of a prototype of the hardware and software complex of monitoring and control of JINR LAN "Dubna-Traffic".
  
  
• Provision of the reliable functioning of the Central Information and Computing Complex (CICC) in JINR. Fulfillment of plans on growing the CICC performance and increasing the disk space for data storage to meet the requirements of experiments ATLAS, ALICE, CMS and other projects underway at the Institute. Support of base software, monitoring of operation of units, information support, registration of users and consulting service of CICC JINR. Development of the system of distributed and parallel computations. Increase of the reliability of software storage and fault tolerant access to the software. Provision of operative control over data streams for processing, storing and effective search with use of mass memory systems. Development of the concept of creating a dynamic center for data processing with using the principles of "virtualization" and service - oriented architecture on the basis of the JINR CICC.
  
  
• Further development of the hardware and software environment for information, algorithmic and software support of the research activities underway at JINR and its Member State institutes on the base of JINR CICC. Modernization and support of the information WWW/FTP-servers of JINR and LIT, development of retrieval systems on JINR sites. Creation and maintenance of information systems and databases in cooperation with other JINR subdivisions (including administrative structures). Development of the system of libraries of electronic documents related to the JINR scientific and administrative activities. Development of the system of electronic libraries of scientific periodical publications with access to full-text electronic versions of journals on the JINR research fields. Development, design and maintenance of information web-sites of various workshops and conferences, as well as support of sites of JINR subdivisions and sites of conferences in a hosting mode (by request). Support of the international program libraries CERNLIB and CPCLIB at JINR. Further development of the JINRLIB Library on all computer platforms used at JINR and its participating countries. Increasing the efficient use of modern computing clusters for the solving of computational physics problems at the expense of paralleling of the most demanded programs of the JINRLIB. Development of the methods of automatic re-engineering of computing programs aimed at simplification of updating consecutive programs at their transfer to multiprocessing systems and clusters. Practical application of re-engineering to solving a number of large computing tasks: organization of a computing server/client interface, development and debugging of specific client applications. Creation and introduction of a laboratory information system of paperless electronic document circulation. Creation of a distributed node of the common educational base of LIT and JINR UC, MIREA and University "Dubna". Development of training courses and practical classes on advanced information technologies and in frames of the Grid-laboratory "GridLab".
  
  
• Development of the Grid-segment at JINR as part of the global Grid-infrastructure with a full-function set of services:
  a) raising of the LCG infrastructure in JINR,
  b) support of base services of the RDIG infrastructure,
  c) development of the system of monitoring and accounting the resources of the Russian segment WLCG/EGEE,
  d) maintenance of WEB-portals for the projects WLCG and EGEE in Russia.
  Development and support of middleware and applied software of the Grid-systems:
  a) certification and testing of new Grid components,
  b) perfection of instrumental means for monitoring of performance of tasks within the Grid-environment (Dashboard, CMS Production, FTS, Condor-G). Creation of a research Grid-structure for testing new components of middleware of the Grid-structures, development of methods of "gridification" of applied software and for work in the field of interoperability of Grid-systems. Support and expansion of opportunities of the HEPWEB system by introducing new generator programs, development of special opportunities for specific experiments on LHC (by requests). Use of the HEPWEB system for the purposes of training on modern simulation technologies in HEP. Development of the training system on Grid-technologies on the basis of the Grid-laboratory "GridLab", further development of the technical base of the GridLab. Continuation of work within the project "Dubna - Grid", development of the JINR segment in frames of the city metacluster system "Dubna-Grid".
