Medical and Biological Researches with the JINR Hadron Beams

Scientific Programme:
Medico-biological and clinical research for the treatment of cancer patients with beams of heavy nuclear particles of the JINR Phasotron and for the accompanying diagnostics.

Expected main results in 2010:

Continuation of clinical researches on proton therapy of cancer patients in room No 1.
Clinical approval of the method and equipment for irradiation of prostate cancer patients with a proton beam.
Development of hardware and software for verification of patient set-up based on an X-ray digital detector.
Development of the equipment for dynamic conformal irradiation of deep seated tumours with the proton beam.
Development and improvement of detectors and tools for clinical dosimetry of the medical hadron beams.
Research of regularities of the manifestation of the adaptive response and "bystander" effect at the combined irradiation of fibroblast sells by different kinds of ionizing radiation.
Investigations of the molecular spectra of gene mutations induced by radiation in animal and human cells. The computer simulation of 3-D genome macroarchitecture in the irradiated animal germ cells with the "position effect" of the gene.
