Vladimir G. Kadyshevsky (born on May 5, 1937) is a well-known theoretical physicist in the elementary particle and quantum field theory.

Professor Kadyshevsky's characteristic feature as a scientist is his permanent interest in key problems of elementary particle physics. His name is associated with the relativistic formulation of quantum field theory in the quantized space-time which satisfies unitarity and generalized causality conditions. His works in this field were acknowledged by many outstanding physicists.

In the theory of internal symmetry V.G. Kadyshevsky established a number of relations for effective cross sections, masses and magnetic moments of hadrons which were confirmed experimentally. Before the Standard Model of electroweak interactions was developed, V.G. Kadyshevsky had studied lepton-hadron symmetries observed in weak processes.

Since 1964 V.G. Kadyshevsky has published a series of papers devoted to the covariant Hamiltonian formulation of quantum field theory. He has developed an original diagram technique that operates with on-massshell amplitudes contrary to the known Feynman diagrams. This method as applied to the interaction of two relativistic particles allowed one to reduce the number of variables and determine a three-dimensional integral equation for the relativistic scattering amplitude known in literature as Kadyshevsky's equation.

Being theoretically consistent, Kadyshevsky's method allows one to apply tools of research, intuition and experience accumulated in the theory of analogous nonrelativistic systems, e.g., few-nucleon atomic nuclei, to elementary particle physics. Kadyshevsky's equation is used by physicists in calculating pp, pn and nn interactions and interactions with nuclei as well as in describing the quark structure of hadrons.

Taking account of the relativistic nature of the problem, V.G. Kadyshevsky replaced the Fourier transformation by the expansion over unitary representations of the Lorentz group in the developed formalism. Finally, the three-dimensional relativistic position operator and the relevant relativistic configuration representation were introduced in the theory. In the new configuration space Kadyshevsky's equation turned out to be a finitedifference equation with a step equal to the Compton wavelength of a particle. Studying concrete physical applications of his equation, V.G. Kadyshevsky has developed new effective methods of solving finitedifference equations.

In recent years V.G. Kadyshevsky has developed a new approach to describing strong and electroweak interactions beyond the scope of the Standard Model.

Since 1970 V.G. Kadyshevsky has been Professor of the Physics Faculty of Moscow State University. He supervised a number of candidate and doctor of science theses. Many times he was chairman of the organizing committees of schools for young scientists, various symposiums and conferences. He was, in particular, a scientific secretary of the XVIII International (Rochester) Conference on High Energy Physics (Tbilisi, 1976).

In 1983-85 V.G. Kadyshevsky was the leader of the DELPHI programme at JINR which was connected with experiments at the LEP collider (CERN).

It was his initiative to open in 1994 an International University in Dubna. In 1995 V.G. Kadyshevsky was elected its President.

V.G. Kadyshevsky is Associate Editor of the journals «Physics of Elementary Particles and Atomic Nuclei» and «Theoretical and Mathematical Physics»; he is a member of the Editorial Board of Bulgarian and Romanian physical journals. He is a member of the Russian programme for science and technology «High Energy Physics», and of the IUPAP Commission on Particles and Fields. In 1993-99 V.G. Kadyshevsky had been President of the Union of the Russian Scientific Societies.

In 1987-92 V.G. Kadyshevsky was Director of the JINR Laboratory of Theoretical Physics.
From 1992 to 2005 he was Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
Since 1 January, 2006 he is Scientific Leader of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

V.G. Kadyshevsky was awarded the Order of Peoples' Friendship (USSR, 1976), Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius (Bulgaria, 1981), Order of Friendship (Dem. People's Rep. of Korea, 1996), Officer's Cross, Order of Merit (Poland, 1996), Order of Honour (Russia, 1996), Cross "For Services", Germany (2000), N.N. Bogoliubov Medal of the Academy of Creation (1992). He is a recipient of the Krylov Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1990), and N.N. Bogoliubov Prize-Winner of the Academy of Creation (1992). Honorary citizen of Moscow Region (2001).

In 1996 V.G. Kadyshevsky was elected Doctor Honoris Causa of the Mongolian State University; and in 1997, of the University of Sofia. In 2002 academician V.G. Kadyshevsky was elected of the member of Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member the Board of the Physics Department at the RAS and foreign member of an Academy of Sciences of Georgia
