It is located in east part of Europe and northern part of Asia. Russia borders with Chinese People's Republic, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Norway. The European and Asian parts are divided by range of Ural. Russia is basically the flat country, mountain areas prevail in the east and the south of the country. In the European part these are Big Caucasus mountain range where the highest point of Russia - Elbrus is located. In Siberia it is Altai, Sayan mountains, Far East mountain range and hill of Kuriles and Kamchatka.

The most Part of territory of Russia lays in a moderate climatic zone; islands of Arctic ocean and northern continental areas lay in the Arctic and subarctic zones; Black Sea coast of Caucasus is located in a subtropical zone. Climate is almost everywhere continental, with cold winter , long snow cover and hot summer. The coldest place of northern hemisphere (with the minimal temperature of January-68C) - city of Oimyakon in Eastern Siberia. In the south of the Far East a climate is moderate - monsoonal with average temperatures of January from 0°C up to-5°C. The greatest quantity of precipitations drops out in mountains of Caucasus and Altai (up to 2000 mm per year), the most droughty area is Pricaspian lowland (about 150 mm of deposits per year).
