Nucleus and Particle Interactions at Intermediate Energies

Scientific Programme:
Investigation of processes of strong, weak and electromagnetic interaction of elementary particles and light nuclei at intermediate energies with the aim of determining symmetries and dynamics of the interactions. Development and construction of set-ups for experiments at accelerators (JINR phasotron, PSI meson factory, COSY proton synchrotron) for obtaining new information and testing the present theoretical views in the topics. Development of projects for new experiments and experimental methods for intermediate-energy physics.

Expected main results in 2003:

Publication of preliminary results on precession measurement of the pion -decay probability (PIBETA).
Processing of data on study of the process pd (pp)n with forward emission of a proton pair with a low relative energy: energy spectra, angular distributions, vector analyzing power. Data taking for the process dd ⁴He.
Data taking in the pion beam at the JINR Phasotron at 218 MeV/c; processing the experimental data collected in 2002-2003; obtaining and publishing physical results on the production of secondary nucleons and nuclear fragments in pion interactions with the ⁴He (DUBTO).
Performing the analysis of the data of the measurement of muon catalyzed fusion cycling rate temperature dependence in a binary mixture D/T in the temperature range 40-300K.
Performing measurements of the parameters of muon catalyzed fusion in tritium and analysis of the data obtained (CATALYSIS).
Analysis of the pp data of the DIB2 collaboration and determination of more precise values of the dibaryon resonance d ^*₁ mass, width and possible quantum numbers (spin, isospin and parity).
Continuation of the study of semiconductors by the muonic technique. Publication of the results with the heavy fermion systems. Obtaining of information about the mechanism of ionization of the acceptor admixture in the n-type silicon at low temperatures (MUON).
Data taking on the JINR Phasotron. Simulation of the set-up for the meson factory (FAMILON).
Elaboration of the production technology for aerogel samples with refractive index enlargement to 1.008.
Production of aerogel for Cherenkov counters for physical experiments.
