Excellent results, new partners, numerous awards
On 12-13 September, the 136th session of the JINR Scientific Council was held in the JINR International Conference Centre. The results and plans, new proposals were discussed, elections were held and decisions on awarding prizes were announced.
From laboratory assistant to advisor to director
The Dzhelepov Prize was established at JINR in 2010. It is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of experimental and theoretical research aimed at meeting applied problems using nuclear physics methods. This year, as was announced at the 136th session of the JINR Scientific Council, the winner of the Prize was Marina Frontasyeva, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Advisor to FLNP Director.
FLNP JINR researchers conducted air biomonitoring in national park of Kazakhstan
Scientists from the Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR in collaboration with their colleagues from scientific and educational centres of Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and Romania determined the level of air pollution in the Burabay National Park located in the north of Republic of Kazakhstan with the use of moss as biomonitors. According to contamination factor and pollution load indices the investigated area belongs to three classes of pollution: unpolluted, suspected and moderate. Potential ecological risk index calculated for selected elements revealed harmless risk to human health.
New opportunities for JINR employees
Voluntary health insurance (VHI) is the receipt of additional medical services by employees beyond those established by the compulsory health insurance programme. Traditionally, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research provides employees with this opportunity.
