From the JINR Annual Report "Institute Day by Day"under this rubric in our newspaper, we publish the most significant news of laboratories and departments: introduction of new initiatives, equipment purchases, exhibitions and working visits. However, JINR activity is not only made up of big events. Behind each meeting, the beginning of an experiment, publication or signing of a co-operation agreement the work of hundreds of employees precedes. And each time, opening the next annual report, one understands what a complex mechanism the international scientific centre is.Traditionally, in August we publish excerpts from the report that reflect the work of all-institute departments, their activities are not often mentioned in the news, but without the coordinated work of such teams, neither development, nor daily routine is possible. Innovation activityIn 2022, major practical steps were taken to implement the Institute's flagship initiative in R&D infrastructure development - the establishment of the Innovation Centre for Nuclear Physics Research in Radiation Biology, Biomedical Technology, Radiation Materials Science and Environmental and Information Systems that will provide researchers and developers with access to user infrastructure and new facilities with significant potential for obtaining applied results and developing new technologies, such as: NICA ARIADNA's customized infrastructure based on NICA ARIADNA beams, infrastructure for development in omics technology and neuroradiobiology, a complex based on MSC-230 superconducting proton cyclotron for R&D in the field of beam therapy, a complex based on the DC-140 cyclotron for testing electronic components, radiation materials science, development of track membrane technologies and their production, a Class 1 radiochemical laboratory and a specialized accelerator for the production of radioisotopes (225Ac, 99mTc) for nuclear medicine. To ensure and coordinate innovation activities at the Institute, the Innovation and Intellectual Property Department (IIPD) was developed within the Chief Engineer Service. The functions of the Department include development and implementation of optimal approaches and formats of work with innovation projects, consulting and support of project teams in all aspects and at all stages of preparation and implementation of developments. The Innovation Team of the Department includes representatives of laboratories and leaders of major projects of the Institute. As a result of the cooperation of development teams within the Institute and involvement of business partners in this cooperation, a number of applied, including inter-laboratory, projects were initiated: development of new generation biomaterials for ophthalmology and dentistry, including those based on track membranes (FLNR, FLNP), development of products based on track membranes functionalized with biomolecules (FLNR, FLNP), implementation of custom research within the framework of development of new generation plant protection products by a business partner (FLNR, FLNP). Structural investigations of various mycellated preparations provided by one of the residents of SEZ Dubna were also carried out in FLNP. The FLNR Centre for Applied Physics together with a partner from SEZ started experiments aimed at creating products for laboratory diagnostics based on track membranes. In order to develop the project on the development of a matrix spectroscopic semiconductor X-ray detector operating in the single photon counting mode (FLNR in cooperation with colleagues from LHEP and the Republic of Belarus), cooperation was organized with a company developing a birefringent electron beam computed tomograph. Cooperation was organised with the V.V.Dokuchaev Soil Institute and the Voronezh State Forestry Engineering University named after G.F.Morozov to study the application of the labelled neutron technique within the framework of climate projects and rational land use. In order to determine the technical level of new developments of JINR staff for patentability, a range of design developments were examined, including the determination of objects of legal protection and their classification in accordance with the International Patent Classification, as well as the search for analogues and prototypes. Patent research reports were prepared jointly with laboratory staff. For eight developments, jointly with the authors, sets of application documents were prepared and submitted to Rospatent of the Russian Federation for invention patents. Six patents for inventions were obtained. Three computer programmes were registered in the Register of Programmes for Electronic Computing Machines of Rospatent. The sets of application documents for obtaining registration certificates were prepared and submitted to Rospatent of the Russian Federation. In 2022, the validity of 87 JINR patents was supported. The work with laboratories was carried out to identify patents with a priority of more than 10 years that do not need further maintenance. Publishing DepartmentIn 2022, 69 titles of publications and 44 titles of service materials were published in the JINR Publishing Department. In spring, 2022, the book of diaries of the first JINR Director Dmitry Ivanovich Blokhintsev was completed. The abstracts of the reports of the International Conference "Investigations of condensed matter at the IBR-2 reactor" and materials of the Conference "Actual problems of radiation biology" were published. JINR Annual Reports for 2021 were published. In 2022, 6 issues of the Journal "Physics of elementary particles and the atomic nucleus" including 122 articles were published. 6 issues of the journal "Particles and Nuclei, Letters" containing 131 articles were published. The JINR Newsletter "JINR News" was published in Russian and English. In 2022, 51 issues of the JINR Weekly "Dubna: science, commonwealth, progress" were published. Brochures about JINR and the flagship projects of the Institute prepared by the Press Centre were printed in Russian and English, as well as leaflets about JINR. Within the framework of the exchange of scientific publications, JINR publications were sent to the organizations collaborating with the Institute from different countries of the world: JINR preprints and reports, the newsletter "JINR News", JINR Annual Reports, the journals "Particles and Nuclei, Letters". The Publishing Department sent 97 articles containing the results of the work of JINR scientists to the editorial boards of journals and to various conferences, symposia, meetings and schools held both in JINR Member States and in other countries. Articles by JINR staff were sent to the journals "Nuclear Physics", "RAS News. Physics Series", "Instrumentation and Experimental Techniques", "Nuclear Physics and Engineering", "Crystallography", "Surface. X-ray, synchrotron and neutron investigations" and others. New printing equipment was purchased - a modern high-performance digital printing machine Konica Minolta AccurioPress 7090. Science and Technology LibraryIn 2022, the number of readers of the Science and Technology Library was 1770. There is an electronic system of accounting of literature issuance and return. The number of issued literature is 4000 copies. As of 1 January 2023, the library collection was 431,171 copies, of which 195,264 in foreign languages. According to the readers' requests, 121 editions were received by interlibrary loan, 26 requests from other libraries were fulfilled. All sources of acquisition received 1249 copies of books, periodicals, preprints, dissertations and abstracts, 137 of them in foreign languages. All received publications were recorded in the central catalogue, catalogues of the branch, as well as in the automated information and library system Absotheque. 3024 preprints and communications, deposited JINR publications were scanned and available in the electronic catalogue. The database of JINR staff work is available on the Internet through electronic catalogues. The Library receives 80 titles of periodicals. Due to the fact that the STL subscribes to foreign journals, the JINR staff members have access to full-text electronic versions of these journals on the Internet.
