On the development of the science city of Dubna

On 7-8 November, a strategic session of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives was held in Dubna.

On the first day, the representatives of the division "Urban Economy" of ASI inspected the city and promising sites for its development. On 8 November, at the JINR International Conference Centre, the ASI delegation and invited experts - architects, urbanists, economists, planners held expert discussions and delivered reports on possible projects in the presence of municipal government officials.

Opening the strategic session, Grigory Trubnikov spoke on behalf of not only JINR Directorate, but also the city-forming enterprises of Dubna. JINR Director highlighted that the city is currently at a difficult stage in its development, yet has very good accumulated potential: the city's economy grows, largely due to the residents of the SEZ "Dubna". Enterprises are built, for the activities of which large investments are attracted. "JINR, especially after the visit of President of Russia in June of this year, has huge development prospects. Next year, we will put into operation the giant NICA project that has been under construction for about ten years and that will attract about a thousand more researchers to Dubna," Grigory Trubnikov emphasized. What is also important for the development of the city is that thanks to the participation of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia and the Governor of the Moscow Region, medicine develops in Dubna. With the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, Dubna University was reformatted and became a state university that also results in an influx of talented people that will come to Dubna as students and postgraduates. All this entails a significant increase in population and provokes serious changes. The format of construction of official and private housing, the style of residential development, landscaping, logistics, healthcare, education, personnel and social issues should be revised.

The experts worked in five working groups at the session. The following issues were widely discussed: development of a comfortable, safe and attractive urban environment for living in the city, including the social sphere; personnel policy, including housing construction and transport accessibility; mechanisms for attracting investment in the development of the urban district; branding of the territory (the perception of Dubna by citizens and the perception of the city outside: at the regional, national and international levels); development of tourism and other services. At the end of the strategic session, the heads of the working groups presented final reports with proposals for the transformation of the urban environment. Based on the results of the session, two documents will be signed which the future of the science city of Dubna will depend on in the next decade and beyond: the strategy for the spatial development of the city and the master plan for its social and economic development.
