Meridians of cooperation Ambassador of Argentine Republic visited JINROn 23 November, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic to the Russian Federation Eduardo Antonio Zuain and Second Secretary of the Embassy and Head of the Political and Scientific and Technological Departments Luciano Javier Liendo visited JINR. The meeting took place at the Institute’s Directorate. The participants discussed JINR University Centre’s projects that are of interest to educational centres of Argentina and the possibility of holding joint events.JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov welcomed the distinguished guests warmly and spoke about JINR focus areas and the organization of multilateral scientific research at the Institute. Grigory Trubnikov noted with satisfaction that this was the second visit of the Argentine diplomats to JINR. He pointed out that the promotion of cooperation with Latin American countries of high scientific and technological potential had become a marked tendency in the development of JINR external relations in the recent years. Eduardo Zuain, in his turn, confirmed that the scientific community of Argentina was interested in continuing cooperation and forming relations with new partners around the world, including JINR. The participants exchanged views on possible further actions to expand the involvement of Argentine scientists in JINR scientific projects, particularly the prospect of organizing an online scientific forum for Argentine scientists. The forum will include the main JINR projects and aim to identify thematic areas of fundamental and applied research of mutual interest. In addition, the scientific and university communities of Argentina may be interested in international student programmes and programmes for interns and young scientists implemented at JINR.
Ambassador of Argentina, in his turn, emphasised that the Embassy was ready to promote the establishment and development of scientific relations between scientific organizations of Argentina and the JINR international community. Members of the Institute’s Directorate, heads of the International Cooperation Department and the JINR University Centre, and JINR employees from the Republic of Cuba and Mexico attended the meeting. In accordance with the programme of the visit, His Excellency Mr. Eduardo Zuain visited the Laboratory of High Energy Physics and reviewed the implementation of NICA Accelerator Complex. JINR and Argentina have been cooperating in science since 2003. Argentine researchers maintain scientific relations with colleagues from the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR. The Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics at JINR and the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina have been working collaboratively in the field of development and creation of cold neutron sources for several years. Rolando Granada, a Professor at the Balseiro Institute of the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina, is a member of the JINR Scientific Council.
