Dubna excellent students' meeting

On 21 May, the traditional annual excellent students' meeting was held in the Cultural Centre "Oktyabr". This year, 138 students that graduated with honors from primary school in 13 general education institutions in Dubna were honored. Some of them also won or became prize winners of city Olympiads in Mathematics and Russian language.

"You have completed the first stage of education with flying colors," Head of the Department of Public Education of the City Administration Svetlana Zhalenkova greeted the schoolchildren, their parents and teachers. "I am sure that in a few years you will graduate from the 11th grade and on this stage, we will award you with gold medals. Thank you to your parents that helped you and sympathized with you and great thanks to your teachers, who you are saying goodbye with." Together with S.A.Zhalenkova, the certificates and books were awarded to the children by Moscow Regional Duma Deputy M.V.Shevchenko that wished success to the primary school graduates and Deputy Head of the City N.Yu.Madfes that highlighted their achievements.

"I represent a bridge from the initial to the next level of education," the award baton was passed to Head of the city interschool physics and mathematics elective, member of the editorial board of the magazine "Quantum" A.A.Leonovich (in the photo). "I hope that the books you received ("Physics without formulas", "Amazing technology" and other books by Alexander Anatolievich - O.T.) will be read by you. They were born thanks to work with the same children that have not yet begun to study physics at school." A.A.Leonovich presented the book of his colleague, journalist, teacher and popularizer of science Leonid Ashkenazi "Don't be afraid, this is physics!", the magazines "Quantum" and "Quantik", in which one can find a lot of useful information not only on physics, but also on other sciences. "I really hope that these books will awaken someone's interest in physics, attract them to this subject when it appears in your school," Alexander Anatolievich noted. He also spoke about the interschool elective, supervised by the Department of Public Education and the JINR University Centre, in which fifth-graders also study, although its programme is designed for schoolchildren in grades 6-9. During the elective, children learn how physics deals with other sciences and analyze Olympiad tasks. Hundreds of children have already taken the elective, these classes helped them to choose their life path and some graduates have already returned to the elective as teachers. Alexander Anatolievich proudly spoke about this year's graduate of Lyceum No.6 Taisiya Zlotnikova that became a prize-winner of the All-Russian Mathematical Olympiad in 2022 that also came to the elective classes as a fifth-grader. "Come to us in September, if there are enough people willing, we will open the 5th grade too!" he invited the children.

The awards programme was decorated with performances by children's vocal and choreographic groups of the city.
