Aleksandr Vasilievich Sushkov 18.10.1959 - 11.10.2022

On 11 October, 2022, after a long illness, the senior researcher of the Department of Atomic Nucleus Theory of BLTP JINR, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Aleksandr Vasilievich Sushkov passed away.

Aleksandr Vasilievich was born on 18 October, 1959. In 1983, he graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Lomonosov Moscow State University and came to work to BLTP JINR. In 1987, A.V.Sushkov defended his PhD thesis.

Aleksandr Vasilievich was a student of Professor V.G.Soloviev, a worthy representative of the Dubna School in the theory of nuclear structure. He made a significant contribution to the theoretical spectroscopy of deformed nuclei, to the development and improvement of the quasiparticle-phonon model of the nucleus. His first papers were dedicated to charge-exchange excitations of deformed nuclei. Later, he carried out a series of investigations dedicated to a detailed analysis of the probabilities of magnetic and electric dipole transitions in the spectroscopic area of excitation energies of deformed nuclei; elucidated the microscopic nature of numerous experimentally detected 0+ and 2+ states in the nuclei of the elements of rare earths and actinides. In recent years, the area of his scientific interests has included the spectroscopy of low-lying excitations of superheavy nuclei.

A.V.Sushkov's more than 80 papers have been published in leading international and Russian scientific journals, he is a co-author of the fundamental reference book "Energies and structure of nuclear levels" (Landolt-Bernstein publishing house, 2002-2004). The high level of A.V.Sushkov's research is confirmed by the JINR First Prize for 1995 and the JINR Honorary prize for 2004 awarded to him as a member of the team of authors.

Aleksandr Vasilievich was a gentle, sympathetic person with ascetic life habits. He was always ready for help and advice.

The memories of Aleksandr Vasilievich Sushkov will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
