JINR at Nuclear Festival

On 6-8 September, the Second Nuclear Festival of NRNU MEPhI was held at the Resort Hotel "Volga" of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in the Tver Region.

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was one of the Festival's partners along with the Rosatom State Corporation, Moscow State University and the Kurchatov Institute. More than 30 JINR employees from Vietnam, India, Cuba, Russia and the Czech Republic took part in the various activities of the Festival.

The bright and fiery Nuclear Festival united many formats of events in the fields of science, sports and music for visitors of all ages. The Festival programme included popular science lectures, a quest, a quiz, an engineering show, solving physics tasks, master classes in drone control, sports competitions between teams of young scientists fighting for the MEPhI Nuclear Cup, a concert of popular musicians of various genres, a screening of films about science and much more.

Head of Sector of Radiation Physiology of LRB Yury Severyukhin gave a mini-lecture at the Science Slam battle on the effect of radiation on the brain of small laboratory animals. At the Nuclear Lecture Hall, Head of Sector of Weak Interactions of DLNP Mark Shirchenko, as one of the translators of the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory", explained selected scientific jokes from this series to the audience.

The Festival included competitions in beach volleyball, badminton, laser tag, chess, drone launching and track and field. The JINR team won in the categories "Nuclear run", "Badminton" and "Quiz" of the MEPhI-2024 Nuclear Cup and took second place in the board games tournament, also showing excellent results in the tactical medicine competition.
