JINR participates in International Association of Academies of Sciences Council meeting
A JINR delegation, under the joint leadership of JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov and JINR Scientific Leader Victor Matveev, is taking part in the 35th meeting of the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS).
The main topic of the meeting was summing up of the IAAS work in 2017 - 2022. The key focus of the current session is the integration of science in the Eurasian space.
"IAAS is an important integration platform for a significant part of the key partners of JINR as an international scientific centre: academic structures of a number of the JINR Member States as well as our large partner countries are represented in IAAS," JINR Director Academician Grigory Trubnikov commented on the event. "Nowadays, it is important for scientists to preserve and strengthen the trustful scientific dialogue, avoiding its politicization. After all, science is of eternal importance to humanity and should bring nations together." He also expressed confidence that IAAS could make a significant contribution to this process.
The IAAS Council meeting includes presentations on the development of research in various key areas and plans of IAAS for the next few years. It was repeatedly emphasised that scientists from different countries must tackle the challenges of modern science jointly. Moreover, the aim of the Association of the Academies of Sciences is to integrate efforts of different scientific organizations from the Member States. During the session, elections for the Head of the Association for 2022-2027 took place. A representative of the JINR Member State, Chairman of the Presidium of the NAS of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, was re-elected to this position by the decision of participants.
The JINR delegation included representatives of the JINR Association of Young Scientists and Specialists. On 26 September, Deputy Chairman of the JINR AYSS Council Alexander Nezvanov took part in the meeting of the IAAS Council of Young Scientists. Participants from different countries shared their experiences in supporting young professionals, talked about the challenges they face, and discussed future projects.
At the Academy Council meeting, Grigory Trubnikov, a full member of IAAS, was awarded a badge and a diploma as an IAAS Academician.
The meeting is taking place from 26 to 30 September in Moscow and St. Petersburg at the Kurchatov Institute and Lomonosov Moscow State University. Among the participants of the event are representatives of the Directorates of the National Academies of Sciences of many countries, including the JINR Member States. The Joint Institute became a full member of IAAS in 2020.
